Assignment #8

Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningenglish/english/course/upper-intermediate/unit-1/session-4
comment:
This website is useful ,there are so many topics to chose that I have not really surfing all the website.
This week I chose the topic: Stop saying...! to my homework.
This is their new series ,it's for English learner to solve some problem with pronunciation ,and this week is talking about double contractions.
For example:
I would have -> I'd've
could not have -> couldn't've
you would have -> you'd've
Sometime I watch foreigner series ,I was confusing about what they said. When I saw the subtitles ,I know what it means! The problem is contractions ,also double contractions.
When we wants to speak like a native speaker ,contractions is a big part to learn. We can learn some skill on speaking by the series.

Assignment #7 The key to success

Angela Lee Duckworth: The key to success?
00:11
Vocabulary:
stratospheric

extremely high

motivational

making somebody want to do something, especially something that involves hard work and effort
perspectivea particular attitude towards something; a way of thinking about something
rookie
a person who has just started a job or an activity and has very little experience
contexts
the words that come just before and after a word, phrase or statement and help you to understand its meaning
stamina
the physical or mental strength that enables you to do something difficult for long periods of time

-
My comment:
I agree that grit is the key to success.
In the speech ,she said that Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in, day out, not just for the week, not just for the month, but for years, and working really hard to make that future a reality. Grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.
In my personal experience ,for example ,on studying ,I am not a smart student ,the only way I can get great grade is hard-working.But inertia is a common failing ,what can we do to overcome it is grit.
A success person is always a grittier person.Maybe he/she is not smart ,not rich ,doesn't have a good out looking. But be gritty ,success closing.

Assignment #6

Adele-HELLO

Hello, it's me
I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet
To go over everything
They say that time's supposed to heal ya
But I ain't done much healing

Hello, can you hear me?
I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be
When we were younger and free
I've forgotten how it felt before the world fell at our feet

There's such a difference between us
And a million miles

Hello from the other side
I must've called a thousand times
To tell you I'm sorry
For everything that I've done
But when I call you never
Seem to be home

Hello from the outside
At least I can say that I've tried
To tell you I'm sorry
For breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly
Doesn't tear you apart anymore

Hello, how are you?
It's so typical of me to talk about myself, I'm sorry
I hope that you're well
Did you ever make it out of that town
Where nothing ever happened?

It's no secret
That the both of us
Are running out of time

So hello from the other side (other side)
I must've called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry
For everything that I've done
But when I call you never
Seem to be home

Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry
For breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly
Doesn't tear you apart anymore

Ooooohh, anymore
Ooooohh, anymore
Ooooohh, anymore
Anymore

Hello from the other side (other side)
I must've called a thousand times (thousand times)
To tell you I'm sorry
For everything that I've done
But when I call you never
Seem to be home

Hello from the outside (outside)
At least I can say that I've tried (I've tried)
To tell you I'm sorry
For breaking your heart
But it don't matter, it clearly
Doesn't tear you apart anymore

*supposed toto be expected or required to do/be something according to a rule, a custom, an arrangement, etc
**run out
if a supply of something runs out, it is used up or finished
***tear apart
to search a place, making it look untidy and causing damage

On the surface Adele appears to be trying to get in touch with a former lover. However, despite her reputation for breakup anthems, Adele told Ryan Seacrest she is not addressing anyone specifically. "I have a little curiosity about my past now that I'm a grown up," the 25 singer explained. "We're not kids anymore and stuff like that. It's kind of a hello to all my old friends, all the relationships I've had, all my old teachers, my little me when I was 7 or 8, and also a bit of a hello to all my fans because I've been gone for so long."
                                                                                                                             <Songfacts>

It makes me remembered one of my friends.
We were good friends.
We had the same hobbits ,we had the same dream ,we gone everywhere ,we did everything.
But we fight because some misunderstandings.

Sometimes I want to know how is he ,how sorry about the mistakes I've done for him.
But still now ,I don't have courage to say "HELLO" to him.
Like I used to be.

Assignment #5

I have learned google syntax at "Introduction of Computer Science" in senior high school, but I just use it on Chinese searching.
After last week's lesson, I learned some new skill like "google Similar Image" and "site:".
Both of two are useful when I use Google to search something had many information.
For example, if I want to search a product on google, but just a specific condition, enter site:+condition, I got the specific information I want.

Assignment #3 My thoughts and new findings on ESL Cyber Listening Lab

What did you learn from this week's class?

From last week's lesson, we learned about linking and accent reduction.
It's difficult to me at the first time. Because I am not used to do it. It listens like a native speaker. But on me, it listens strange.
After practice, it listens a little normal. I think it will  progress, if we had the environment.

What can we do with the audio files, scripts, 5 questions for each conversation?

The audio files-
to listen the foreign's accent
to practice listening skill

The script-
to make sure the true meaning that we listen from the audio files

5 questions for each conversation-
it tests that we really know about the conversation
